Bring .vsdx diagrams into SAP Signavio

SAP Signavio Process Manager imports BPMN 2.0 XML. Convert the .vsdx file, then import the result from the explorer.

1. Convert the .vsdx file

  1. Test the file without an account: you see the converted diagram, page by page, and a conversion report.
  2. If the result suits you, create an account and convert the file from your dashboard. The first account of an organisation, or of a personal mailbox, starts with 2 free conversions; see pricing.
  3. Check the result in the built-in editor, then download the .bpmn file.

A file with several pages counts as one conversion. All its pages are placed one under the other in a single diagram, so one import is meant to bring the whole file into SAP Signavio. Check it on your first file.

2. Import into SAP Signavio Process Manager

  1. Open the explorer of your workspace.
  2. Choose Import / Export > Import BPMN 2.0 XML.
  3. Choose the .bpmn file and confirm.

Whether the import is offered depends on your workspace settings. Source: Import BPMN 2.0 XML, SAP Signavio documentation, read on 8 October 2026.

What SAP’s documentation says to watch for

  • Diagram information is required. An element without it raises a warning and may be missing after the import. Vsdx2Bpmn writes diagram information for every element it converts.
  • Warnings mean missing elements. An error stops the import; a warning lets it finish with some elements absent. Read the import messages.
  • Layout of files made by other tools. An SAP support note says BPMN files produced by third-party tools can load with a different layout, and that SAP support does not analyse files produced by third-party tools. SAP note 3784158.
  • Many files at once. For mass import, SAP points to the Process Manager API, which needs an API licence. SAP note 3613269.

3. Check the imported diagram

  • Compare it with the original, page by page.
  • Change the type of data objects, data stores and groups: they are converted as tasks.
  • Replace the lines between annotations and their elements with associations.
  • Look for connectors that were attached at one end only in the original: they are not converted.
